How to Clean a New Coffee Pot
When you buy a new coffeemaker, the promise of fresh and flavorful coffee might help you rise early with anticipation. Before you use a new coffeemaker for the first time, most manufacturers recommend that you clean both the coffeemaker itself and the carafe to ensure that dust and debris didn't accumulate onto any surfaces. Open the lid of the coffeemaker where the filter basket sits. Place the filter basket into position inside the coffeemaker and close the lid.

Plug the coffeemaker in and fill the reservoir to the top with cool water. Close the reservoir lid.

Turn the coffeemaker on and allow it to brew the plain water. According to manufacturers such as Mr. Coffee, Krups and Cuisinart, brewing plain water before brewing coffee for the first time in a new coffeemaker will remove dust that often accumulates inside the machine during manufacturing.

Turn the coffeemaker off and discard the water.

Remove all washable parts from the coffeemaker. Wash the carafe, lid and the filter basket in warm, soapy water to remove any dust and dirt. Rinse these pieces well with warm water and dry them with a dishtowel.

Assemble the coffeemaker according to its design and brew your coffee.
