1
Purchase a sturdy wooden pole that is the desired height. When you are choosing the lumber, remember that approximately 4 feet of the rod will be buried underground for stability.
-
2
Cover the wooden pole with 2 coats of wood seal. For easiest application, paint one side of the pole and then roll it over to paint the other side. Allow the wood seal to dry completely between each coat.

3
Measure 4 feet from the bottom of the wooden rod and make a mark. Measure the remaining distance of the pole and make a mark at the halfway point.
-
4
Place the rope cleat on the halfway point you measured. Screw the rope cleat to the wooden pole using a power drill or a screwdriver.
-
5
Remove the pulley from its package and line it up with the rope cleat. Secure the pulley to the top of the wooden pole, following the instructions included in the pulley kit.
