How to Know If a Jetta is a GL or GLS
The Volkswagen Jetta is one of the most reliable, affordable and popular sedans on the road today. It comes in many different models, with the two most common being the GL and GLS. The body style of the two models is almost identical, but there are some features that can help you identify their differences. The GLS is the more expensive model, featuring more options and priced at around $20,000. The Volkswagen Jetta GL can be purchased for around $15,000.

Look at the rims to see if the rims are aluminum or plastic hubcaps. The Volkswagen Jetta GLS model will have five-spoked aluminum rims, whereas the GL will have plastic hubcaps which cover the entire wheel.

Open the door and look to see what types of options are present. The GLS will have more options such as leather seats, cruise control and an outdoor temperature indicator on the dashboard. The GL model will have cloth seats.

Open the hood by lifting the hood release, which is inside the car on the lower left of the driver's side. Walk to the front of the car, lift open the hood and look at the engine. The GLS model will have a turbocharged 1.8 liter symbol on the top of the engine, while the GL model will have a 2.0 liter symbol.

Test driving the vehicles can also distinguish the models due to the stiffer suspension and better handling of the Volkswagen Jetta GLS.
If you are unsure of the model, bring the vehicle to the nearest Volkswagen dealer so they can run the VIN to find out exactly what model it is.
