Walnuts are one of the most popular nuts on the market, especially during the holidays. Bitter in flavor, walnuts can be prepared and served in a variety of ways. These milky nuts are good eaten raw or cooked and are particularly useful for pastry and dessert dishes that require that extra nutty flavor. Often thought of as a "brain food" because of their resemblance to the brain, these nuts are full of omega-3 fats.   • Baking sheet

Instructions

      Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

      Crack each walnut by gently squeezing the nut with a nutcracker. Gently hand roll it on a flat surface. Repeat.

      Place the walnuts on the baking sheet. Position them in a single layer and bake for 10-12 minutes or until the nuts are golden.

      Set on a cooling rack. Once they are cooled, add the walnuts to your favorite dish or eat as a snack.

Tips & Warnings

  • Shelled walnuts are available all year round. When buying unshelled walnuts, look for nuts that are uncracked, with no holes and that are unshrivelled.
