Remove the Case From a BlackBerry Curve

The BlackBerry Curve is a useful, versatile tool for myriad reasons, thanks to its many features such as a cellular phone, instant messaging capability, a camera, an Internet browser and a day planner. If a BlackBerry user wishes to attempt a repair to the device himself, or simply to see the inside and inner workings of the BlackBerry, the hard case will have to first be removed. A common aftermarket BlackBerry accessory is a rubber or vinyl cover that protects the phone -- this cover will have to be pulled off before the hard case can be accessed for removal.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the battery cover on the back of the Curve by pressing on the tab and lifting up. Pull out the battery and SIM card.

    • 2

Remove the two mounting screws located on the top rear of the BlackBerry under where the battery cover used to be. You will need a No. 5 Torx screwdriver for these screws.

    • 3

Pry the plastic clip off the bottom of the Curve with your finger or a plastic pry tool.

    • 4

Loosen the two side panels of the phone using your fingers or a pry tool, starting at the top. The bottoms of the panels will remain attached to the phone for now.

    • 5

Press the tabs that hold the faceplate in place with a small, slotted screwdriver, and lift. The faceplate will pull off.

    • 6

Unscrew the two screws located at the bottom front of the phone using a No. 6 Torx screwdriver. This will allow the side rails to come off.

    • 7

Unscrew the phone's keyboard cover with a No. 6 Torx screwdriver and lift it out of place. Once the keyboard cover is removed, the screen cover will also lift off.

    • 8

Pull the screen and motherboard away from the back of the case. Your BlackBerry Curve's case is now fully removed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Removing the central parts of your BlackBerry may void your warranty. If you have a hardware problem, take the phone to a licensed technician.
