How to Beef Up a Customer Service Résumé

Numbers and lists of skills can give your customer service résumé a more filled-out appearance. Thinking through all of your past jobs to identify customer service you provided and individual skills you used in those positions can help your résumé stand out from the crowd. Add customer service-related accomplishments to your résumé, and it will help you complete your résumé revamp and get the job you want.

Instructions

    • 1

Quantify your experience. Your customer service experiences come with numbers, whether they are obvious on the surface or not. State how many customers you served a day on average in a particular job, the rate of satisfied customers you had or the highest amount in sales you made.

    • 2

Use the functional résumé format, which highlights your individual customer service-related skills. Use headings such as "building relationships," "handling complaints" and "solving complicated issues." You can also use a combination of the chronological and functional résumés, in which you list your jobs relevant to a particular skills set under one heading.

    • 3

List your accomplishments at each position you held under its relevant job. Include any achievements you have such as saving the relationship with a large client after your company made a mistake or that you met a company customer satisfaction goal in a certain year.

    • 4

List all relevant positions you have held that contained a customer service component. You may be tempted to leave out a particular job from your résumé because you worked mainly on your own. However, it is important to provide details on all of your jobs in which you provided even the slightest bit of customer service. For example, if you were a preschool teacher for a time, you worked with customers who were parents. This particular subset of customers has a set of needs and demands beyond the typical retail or restaurant customer. You, as their children's care provider and teacher, had an important customer service role to fill in this position.
