How to Convert a Cell Phone to an Alarm
Most modern cellular devices come equipped with a built-in alarm setting so that a user can use his or her cell phone as a means of waking up in the morning, or as a reminder of upcoming meetings and events. Many phones allow for the use of specially downloaded ring tones so that the user does not have to wake up to the jarring sound of the traditional alarm. The process of converting one's cell phone to an alarm clock can vary somewhat, depending on the type of phone, but it is generally fairly straightforward.
Things You'll Need
- Cell phone
- Cell phone charger
- Specially downloaded ring tone, if desired

Using a Cell Phone as an Alarm
-
1
Most phones house the alarm setting under the category titled something like "Tools" or "Settings and Tools." Within this category, the user should be able to select "Alarm Clock."
-
2
Depending on the type of phone, the number of alarms the user is able to set may vary, but it is probably a minimum of three. To set each of these, click to "View" the first alarm, then "Edit" to set the specific parameters. Each alarm must be set separately, but you set them using the same procedure
-
-
3
Set the alarm to the desired time by clicking the "Set Time" section of the "Edit" menu. The phone will probably indicate the current time, and above that there is an easy-to-use scrolling method for setting both hour and minute of the alarm, as well as designating a.m. or p.m. Once the time is set, click "Save" to return to the "Edit" menu.
-
4
Make sure the alarm is set to "on," or it will not go off. If it is alarm is off, it will likely say "Off" in the "Alarm Clock" menu. If this is the case, select the alarm, click "Edit,",
then switch it from "Off" to "On." Be sure the phone is turned on "Loud" so the user can hear it when it sounds.
-
5
In the "Edit" menu, there are other parameters that can be changed to create an alarm that will best suit the user's needs. The user can designate an alarm that will sound once, at the same time daily, every weekday, or on the weekends. The alarm can also be set to any ring tone on the phone, or specialty ring tones that can be downloaded via the phone or online.
Turning off the Alarm
-
6
When the alarm sounds, the user will generally be given the option to "Snooze" or "Dismiss."
-
7
Clicking the "Snooze" option will reset the alarm for five minutes later, when it will go off again. This will usually work four or five times before it turns off on its own.
-
8
Clicking "Dismiss" will promptly turn the alarm off, and unless the user designated it as a recurring alarm, it will need to be turned to "On" again in order to work the following day.
