How to Set Up and Structure Your Home for an eBay Business
Establishing an eBay business is somewhat similar to setting up any other type of home-based business. You will require office space, an area for your merchandise and a method to keep it all organized. Although it may initially take a little work to get your business up and running, getting started with the right set up and structure for your eBay business can make the whole process seem much simpler.

1
Visit eBay's website to establish an account. Purchase a couple of items from eBay to get a better idea of how the buying and selling process works.
-
2
Designate one room in your home as the office. Although it may not be possible to have every item you need in one single room, it is generally easier to keep everything organized if it is confined and kept in one space.
-
-
3
Choose a place in the room where you will take the photos of your merchandise. Near a window with natural sunlight works best; however, you can always add additional light if the lighting in the room is not acceptable.
-
4
Create a space where you will wrap and package your items. You may also wish to place your shipping scale in this area.
-
5
Decide what type of items you wish to sell. Although you may initially choose to gain experience by selling items that you already own, you will eventually need to have a steady supply of merchandise to list. To carve out a niche in the eBay market, consider selling one type of item, such as clothing, antiques or toys.
-
6
Determine where the best place is to store your merchandise. Depending on what you are selling, you may find that you can keep it all in the same room, or it may need to be stored in boxes or on shelves in another room in the house. Consider the basement or garage for storage of these items.
-
7
Purchase the shipping supplies that you will need for sending packages. Since it is generally cheaper to buy in bulk, you may wish to order a large supply of packing peanuts, bubble wrap and shipping tape before you begin to sell on eBay.

Tips & Warnings
Shipping scales can typically be purchased at office supply stores and in some wholesale clubs. Since buyers generally pay for shipping, this scale can help determine the correct weight of the items that you plan to sell.
