Improve your stereo system with bass speakers.

Bass speakers come in various forms, such as subwoofers. They are used in many types of stereo systems, ranging from surround systems to a vehicle's stereo. Bass speakers are designed to produce and improve low-frequency bass sound in stereo systems. You can build your own bass speaker by using a pre-built enclosure in which to set your speaker. One of the advantages of this kind of bass speaker is that it can be made portable.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a 12-inch subwoofer, casters and a pre-built speaker enclosure with a 12-inch opening that is large enough for the subwoofer.

    • 2

Cut two 2-inch pieces of black and red speaker wire. Strip approximately a half inch of insulation from both ends of the wires.

    • 3

Join one of the ends of the red wire to the center screw terminal on the RCA adapter. Connect the unoccupied end of the red wire to the speaker enclosure's positive terminal.

    • 4

Attach one of the ends of the black wire to the RCA plug adapter's outside screw terminal. Join the free end of the black wire to the subwoofer's negative terminal.

    • 5

Turn the enclosure on its side so the enclosure's opening faces upward.

    • 6

Mount the RCA plug adapter into the hole in the enclosure made for the adapter. Most enclosures come with an opening for the adapter. Use a drill to make a hole for the adapter if there is no opening. Use screws to secure the adapter to the enclosure. Place the adapter so the screw terminals face inward.

    • 7

Insert the wires into the enclosure. Place the subwoofer in the enclosure's opening. Use screws to secure the subwoofer to the speaker enclosure.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make the speaker portable by attaching casters to the bottom corners of the enclosure. Make sure the casters have locking brakes.
