How to Make Balloon Bracelets

When you want a truly unique piece of jewelry sometimes the only way to get what you want is to make it yourself using nontraditional supplies. Transform a bag or two of balloons into a stylish and colorful bracelet to wear with any casual outfit. Balloons are inexpensive so you can make a different bracelet to match each outfit or a bracelet in every color of balloon you can find. Balloon bracelets are also a fitting craft for using up balloons left over from the last party you threw.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the 1/4-inch-wide elastic around your wrist to measure a piece for your bracelet. Cut a piece that is 1 inch longer than necessary to make a bracelet that fits in a comfortable way. The extra inch of elastic accounts for the overlap of the ends and the thickness of the balloons.

    • 2

Overlap the ends of the elastic by 1/2 inch. Sew the overlapped ends together with a zigzag stitch.

    • 3

Tie the balloons around the elastic band one at a time with a double knot. Tie the balloons so the knot is on the outside of the bracelet and the neck and wide portion of the balloon are equally as long. Continue tying balloons onto the elastic band until the band is completely covered.

Tips & Warnings

  • Look at dollar stores for inexpensive packs of balloons to use in making your bracelet.

  • Lay out a color pattern for your bracelet, tie the balloons on in no particular color order or use all one color of balloon for the project.

  • Look at party supply stores for balloons with interesting color patterns such as marbling.

  • Use long slender balloons, the kind used for making balloons animals, to give your bracelet for a more fringed look.
