Connect your Canon camcorder to your computer using the firewire cable.

Allow your computer to recognize the device and automatically set the appropriate configurations. If your operating system does not automatically install the drivers for the camcorder, then you must install them manually, using the CD that came with your camcorder.

Open Skype and navigate to the "Preferences" menu under "File" or "Skype" -- depending on which operating system your computer uses.

Select "Video" from the preferences menu and click on the drop-down menu next to "Camera."

Select your Canon camcorder device name from the list of available options in the "Camera" drop-down menu.
