Instructions

    • 1

Drink water. Many people don't drink enough. You don't necessarily have to meet the eight 8-oz. glasses per day guideline, but if you don't drink much, your body may need you to increase your water intake.

    • 2

Eat a diet higher in omega-3 fatty acids. You can buy omega-3 fatty acid supplements in stores and pharmacies, or eat foods like salmon and other fish that are naturally high in the fatty acid. Not only will this help rehydrate your skin, but it's healthy for the rest of you, too.

    • 3

Supplement your diet with vitamin E, or buy a face cream or moisturizer infused with vitamin E. Use the moisturizer before bed to help replenish the moisture your face lost during the day's exposure to the elements. As an alternative to the moisturizer, gently rub your face with olive, almond, avocado or Castor oil. Castor and avocado oils are particularly helpful if you have extremely dry skin.

    • 4

Use a humidifier in your bedroom at night if the air seems particularly dry to keep the moisture from leaching out of your face.

    • 5

Wash using lukewarm, rather than hot, water. Hot water steals moisture from your face. When drying your face, dab rather than rubbing hard with a towel to avoid irritating already dry skin. Avoid washing your face with soap, because this can be harsh on your skin. Replace soap with creamy moisturizing cleansers.

Call your doctor if the dry skin is persistent or worrying. She may be able to prescribe you something to help.

Tips & Warnings

  • When using moisturizers or other cleansing products, read all warning labels to be certain the product is safe for use on your face.

  • Don't overdo your vitamin and mineral intake. If you're already getting the recommended amount of a vitamin or mineral, increasing it won't help you and sometimes is harmful to your health.
