How to Play WoW with Norton

If you accidentally clicked "Deny" when you started your "World of Warcraft" game, you set your Norton antivirus software to deny "World of Warcraft" access to the Internet. Since "World of Warcraft" relies on the Internet, you cannot play the game without reversing the access rules. Fortunately, Norton saves the access rules in your firewall settings, so you can easily change them when you need to.

  1. Norton Internet Security

    • 1

Start Norton Internet Security. Click the "Settings" option.

    • 2

      Click "Configure" under "Smart Firewall."

    • 3

Find "WoW" and "Launcher." Click the drop-down box next to both of these programs under "Access" and select "Allow." Choose the "Apply" button at the bottom of the window. You can now play "World of Warcraft" without Norton interfering.

    Norton 360

    • 1

Start Norton 360. Click "Tasks and Settings" located next to "Scan."

    • 2

Click "Change Advanced Settings" under "Settings" to the right of the screen.

    • 3

Click "Firewall Protection Settings" and select the "Firewall Program Rules" tab.

    • 4

Select the drop-down menu next to "WoW" and "Launcher." Change the access settings to "Allow."

    • 5

      Click "Apply."

Tips & Warnings

  • Norton will not recognize either program when "World of Warcraft" downloads and installs a patch, so it will attempt to block access to the game again. When "World of Warcraft" patches, navigate back to the firewall settings and highlight the "WoW" and "Launcher" programs. Click "Remove" and "Apply." Start up "World of Warcraft" again and click "Allow" when Norton asks whether or not you want to permit access.
