How to Tie Down an ATV in a Trailer
When you haul an ATV or four-wheeler on a trailer you must secure the front of the ATV and the rear of the ATV to the trailer to prevent the ATV from falling off while you drive. ATVs are commonly placed on trailers for transport to local off-road locations. Having a quality set of ratchet straps is a must for anyone who plans to haul their ATVs on a regular basis.

1
Place the front of the ATV against the front of the trailer gate. If you want to protect the front bumper from scratches, place a towel between the bumper and the front of the trailer.
-
2
Place the strap from your ratchet strap across the back of the bumper where the bumper mounts to the frame. Connect the S-hooks on each end of the ratchet strap to the front tie down hooks in the trailer. The strap should go straight across the front of the ATV.

-
3
Work the ratchet on the strap to tighten the strap until the strap starts to force the front suspension down.
-
4
Thread the strap from the second ratchet strap across the swing arm, just in front of the rear tires and connect the S-hooks on each end of the ratchet strap to the tie down hooks on the back of the trailer. The strap should resemble a V with the wider end being the S-hooks strapped to the tie down hooks.
-
5
Work the ratchet on the strap to tighten the strap until the strap starts to force the rear suspension down.
-
6
Pull back on the ATV. If you can move the ATV backwards, push it back to the front of the trailer and tighten both the front and rear straps until you can no longer move the ATV backwards.
