Coleman 295A Powerhouse Lantern Instructions

The Coleman 295A Powerhouse lantern is a fuel-powered light system. A pump compresses and primes the fuel to be burned at the mantel, illuminating the campsite. Preparing the lantern is the key to lighting the mantle and getting a proper burn. Take caution when handling the fuel for the lantern because it is very flammable.

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the fuel cap on the bottom of the lantern. Place the funnel into the nozzle and pour the fuel into the holding tank. Check the fuel level to ensure you do not spill from overfilling. Screw the cap back on once the tank is full.

    • 2

Turn the fuel pump top clockwise until it is loose enough to pull up from the housing. Place your thumb over the small hole in the center of the pump top, then push and pull the pump several times until you feel pressure building and the pump action becomes difficult. Push the pump top back into the housing and turn counterclockwise to lock it into position.

    • 3

Strike your lighter or match and put the flame into the lighting hole so that the flame touches the mantles. Turn on the fuel dial by turning it clockwise.

    • 4

Let the mantles catch and quickly adjust the fuel dial to bring the mantels to a flameless, white-orange glow. If the mantles themselves are burning, quickly blow into the lighting hole to extinguish the flames and try the process again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fill the lantern outside to prevent fuel spills inside a tent or travel trailer.
