Learn how to use an HDTV without HDTV quality.

You can buy an HDTV for viewing high-definition programming that will utilize the benefits of the high quality. Instructions

    • 1

Run an HDTV calibration wizard CD on your HDTV to adjust the most common settings on HDTVs. This adjustment will help the overall output of your HDTV display whether you are watching analog or HD.

    • 2

Tune to an analog program with the volume at a pleasant level and enter the noise-reduction option of your HDTV settings. Raise and lower the reduction level until the best sound is achieved.

    • 3

Lower the sharpness and edge-enhancement feature on the TV until the analog program is clearer. This can correct the disparity between the high-quality output of the HDTV and the lower video quality of the analog program.

    • 4

Set the aspect ratio of the analog program to display at the standard analog ratio of 4:3 instead of HDTV's ratio of 16:9. This results in black bars on either side of the screen, but the image is in the analog ratio it was created in instead of stretching it to fit the HDTV display.
