Make a bath gift for baby with towels and face cloths.

Cakes made with layers of cloth diapers are a common shower gift. For something different, create a cake from hooded towels and trim it with roses crafted from face cloths. Thin baby wash cloths are the best type for making roses. You can often find a package of five baby face cloths in different pastel colors at a discount store. These are suitable for creating a spray of colorful roses to trim a cake. Add a matching ribbon around the base of the cake and tuck a tub toy in among the roses for a playful accent. Instructions

    • 1

Lay the face cloth out flat on a table and fold it into thirds by folding up the bottom edge by a third and folding the top edge down.

    • 2

Roll the face cloth up starting with the left edge. The top folded edge will form the top of the rose.

    • 3

Fold the right edge down at an angle so it is even with the bottom of the rose.

    • 4

Grasp the bottom of the rose in your hand and wrap a rubber band around it, 1/2 inch from the bottom edge. Be sure to catch the folded-down right edge in the band.

    • 5

Spread the top of the rose out to shape it into petals.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make a rosebud by folding the right edge in instead of out.

  • You can use safety pins to attach the roses to the gift or baste them on.

  • Attach a cluster of roses and artificial leaves to a gift basket.
