How to Text a Cell Phone by Emailing

How to Text a Cell Phone by Emailing thumbnail
Texting from a compute to a cell phone is supported by most major providers.

Cell-phone providers have made it easy to send texts via email to cell phones. Typing on a computer keyboard is much faster than typing on a cell phone's keypad, even if the phone has smart technology, which as often as not will mess up the message you're trying to convey. Sending a text via email is as easy as typing out the message, designating the "to" contact as the phone number and appending the provider after the "@" symbol.

Instructions

    • 1

Write your message in whatever email site you desire, but don't exceed 160 characters.

    • 2

Address the email to "[10-digit phone number]@" and then the ending listed here:

      Alltel: message.alltel.com

      AT&T: txt.att.net

      Metro PCS: mymetropcs.com

      Nextel: messaging.nextel.com

      Powertel: ptel.com

      Qwest: qwestmp.com

      Sprint: messaging.sprintpcs.com or pm.sprint.com

      Suncom: tms.suncom.com

      T-Mobile: tmomail.net

      U.S. Cellular: email.uscc.net

      Verizon: vtext.com

      Virgin Mobile: vmobl.com

Ask your cell-phone provider for the correct address if this does not seem to work (or check Resources for an extensive list). They may have updated their address, and your cell-phone carrier might not be covered here, but most cell providers offer this service.
