Even though your cell phone might last you several years, eventually you are going to have to replace it. You might also decide to replace your cell phone because a newer, better and more technologically advanced model is introduced to the market. In this case, you can purchase your new cell phone direct from the manufacturer. If this is what you decide to do, there are several things you need to keep in mind as you make your purchase.

Get to know the major cell phone manufacturers. These include LG, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia and Samsung. You will most likely be purchasing your cell phone from one of these manufacturers.

Figure out which cell phone features are important to you: camera and video, Bluetooth compatibility, a memory card, a QWERTY keyboard, a touch screen, Wi-Fi technology, GPS navigation, general web browsing.

Check the manufacturers’ websites to find out what types of phones they offer. Look for those that offer the features you want, and start making a list of the models that interest you and how much they cost.

Talk to your current cell phone carrier to see if your current service supports the cell phones you’re considering. Not all providers work with all cell phones; the most famous example is probably the iPhone, which is carried exclusively by AT&T.

Order the cell phone you choose direct from the manufacturer’s website or by calling their customer service department and placing your order over the phone.
