How to Plan a Wedding Meal
The meal you plan for your wedding should complement the style, theme, location and season of your wedding, as well as work for your budget. Choose a meal that you and your fiance like, as every guest will have a different opinion and it will drive you crazy trying to please everyone. Don't attempt to make the food for your own wedding if you plan on enjoying the day, as preparing and serving a wedding meal is incredibly time-consuming.

1
Choose the time of day for your wedding meal, which is usually right after the ceremony. Options typically include breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or serving appetizers instead.
-
2
Determine your budget and how many guests you're expecting, which will narrow down what you can serve. Decide whether to hire a caterer or do it yourself. Doing it yourself can save money; however, it's very time-consuming and may involve designating jobs to friends and family who won't get to fully enjoy the wedding.

3
Select the type of meal you want to serve. Common options are a sit-down meal, where each course is served and possibly paired with wine, or a buffet-style meal, where guests help themselves. Extremely large weddings should stick with a sit-down meal so guests don't become agitated waiting in line for their food.
-
4
Decide on the food you want to serve. You should have at least two entrees, including one that's suitable for vegetarians or people who have religious diet restrictions or common food allergies, such as peanuts. Buffet meals allow you to select multiple entrees and sides, whereas sit-down meals typically require guests to choose between two or three options.
-
5
Include local foods your town is known for, such as local-caught seafood near a beach. Add fresh fruits or vegetables that are in season.
-
6
Delegate jobs to hired staff or family and friends to prepare the food, serve your guests and clean up afterward.
