How to Remove Snow from a Semi Trailer Rooftop

Heavy snows can cause damage to poorly supported or unsupported roofs. This includes RVs, campers and semi-trailers. A wet heavy snow can cause these units to collapse and even become damaged beyond lawful use. It is also against the law in some states and very dangerous to drive any vehicle with snow on the roof, since it may fly off and impair the vision of motorists following behind.

Instructions

    • 1

Clear space around the trailer with a snow shovel. This will give you a decent and level surface to set up a ladder.

    • 2

Set the ladder on one of the four corners of the trailer. By starting at the corners you will not be throwing the snow off to an area where you will have to place the ladder.

    • 3

Climb the ladder, leaving a snow rake leaning against it. This will allow you to grab the snow rake when you reach the height of the ladder that will give you the best access to the area where you are working.

    • 4

Take hold of the snow rake, which looks like a small snow shovel with a blade 4 to 12 inches high. Extend it to a point where you are comfortable and pull the snow toward you, pushing it away from the area you will be moving to next when you get it to the edge.

    • 5

Dismount the ladder after dropping the snow rake. Move the ladder to the next clean spot on the ground within reach of the snow rake. Lean the rake against the ladder and climb the ladder. You will want to push this batch of snow toward the area you have just cleared and then push it down to the ground where you just had your ladder placed. Continue this process until the top of the trailer is cleared.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not attempt this if there are high winds, since you can be blown off of the ladder.
