French Christmas Ornaments for Children to Make
Kids love making things and the Christmas season offers many options of crafts and baked goods for them to attempt to create. Christmas ornaments are enjoyed by many throughout the year, and are one of the more entertaining crafts to do with children to occupy their time during the holiday break. For a twist on the more standard glitter ornaments that are typical for kids projects, try creating an ornament from another country to use a little education. French ornaments range from the more traditional simple decorations on the tree including ribbons, candles and colored stars to more elaborate blown glass in bright colors. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Clear blown glass ornaments
- Colors of enamel paint
- Paintbrushes
- Colored paper
- Scissors
- Hole punch
Instructions

Paint Inside Glass Ornaments

Obtain a package of clear blown glass ornaments.

Take the metal tops off of the ornaments by gently tugging onthem.

Let the kids choose two bright colors of enamel paint to use on the ornament.

Squeeze a few drops of one color in the glass ornament. Let the child turn the ornament around to spread the paint in streaks on the inside. Let this sit and dry for a while so the second color doesn't smear the first.

Drop in the second color when the first dries. Let the child roll this one around as well.

Set the ornaments down to dry and place the tops back on.
Decorating Outside Glass Ornaments

Select two colors of enamel paint.

Draw a design on the ornament with a Sharpie pen in a color that closely matches one of the paint colors. This way when it is painted you won't see the marker.

Let the child paint in between the lines of the pattern with the two colors. Set them aside to dry.
Colored Paper Ornaments

Let the child draw out shapes such as stars on colored paper. Some French shapes often used are stars, fruit and dolls.

Cut the paper out with scissors.

Punch a hole in the top of the paper ornament with a hole punch. Run a ribbon though it and let it hang on the tree.
