How to Reset a Suburban RV Heater

How to Reset a Suburban RV Heater thumbnail
Suburban furnaces keep your RV warm.

Suburban manufactures four models of furnaces, also known as heaters: the SH series, the NT and P series, the SF series and the SHD series. Suburban began manufacturing furnaces in the late 1960s and also produces ranges, stove tops and water heaters. Suburban recommends that users take their appliances to a professional instead of attempting home repair. Since all Suburban appliances use gas, repairs can be dangerous and could cause a fire or explosion.

Instructions

    • 1

Smell the furnace and RV to determine if there is a gas leak. If you smell gas, do not continue resetting the heater. Instead, turn off the heater and contact the gas company or fire department.

    • 2

Locate the gas valve for the furnace.

    • 3

Turn the valve so that it is in the "On" position. Allow the gas to flow for several minutes.

    • 4

Turn the switch to the "Off" position. Wait about 10 minutes.

    • 5

Turn the furnace's switch back to the "On" position.

    • 6

Shut off the circuit breaker for the RV furnace. Wait about one minute.

    • 7

Flip the circuit breaker switch so that it returns to the "On" position. This should reset the heater.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not light a match or smoke near your furnace or you risk causing an explosion.
