How to Get Your Child to Follow Directions in School
Raising children is not easy, but it can be very rewarding. You face many challenges as a parent, but the effort you put into raising your child will hopefully pay off. One important thing children must learn early is to follow directions. By not following directions, his grades can suffer. The teacher may start to feel he is a difficult child, but he may not know how to focus and follow easy directions. So take a little time and effort with your child. You will be glad you did.

Explain the rules. Sit down with your child and calmly and gently tell him that he must follow the teacher's directions. Explain why he must do that. Do not yell or accuse, just calmly sit with him and explain. Explain why directions are so important in school.

Tell him to repeat back the rules. This ensures that he was listening to you and understands the implications. You can then clarify anything he may not understand.

Speak to the child's teacher. Talk about any concerns or behaviors. If the child is not behaving, set up a conference. Meet with the teacher and your child.
