How to Sew a Baby's Pillow Case
Many people enjoy the plush look of pillows for decorating their baby's crib, even though infants should not use pillows. If you are using pillow cases anywhere near an infant, it is necessary to make sure they will not work get loose from the pillow, as you would not want the child to be harmed by it. Additionally, pillows should be removed from the crib before placing your baby in it; Drs. William and Martha Sears, well known pediatricians, call them "breathing blockers." Baby pillow cases are relatively simple to make, and are similar to adult pillow cases, with the exception of the extra fastenings to keep them put.

1
Measure the pillow and cut the fabric. Once you have the dimensions of the pillow, cut one piece of the fabric for the pillowcase at least one inch larger than the dimensions of the entire pillow. This will give you a healthy seam allowance. Cut two more pieces for the other side, giving yourself a one inch seam allowance on all sides, and at least a three inch overlap across the back of the pillow.

2
Hem the open edges. Turn one edge of one of the back pieces at least a quarter inch and press. Turn another quarter inch and press again. Pin this edge down and sew. Repeat for the other back piece of the pillow case, on the opposing side, so that the two hemmed edges overlap.

Pin and sew. With the wrong sides of the fabric facing each other, pin the backs of the pillowcase to the front, overlapping the two pieces of the back. Sew along all four sides of the pillowcase. Press the seams open and turn right side out.

Attach the Velcro. With the pillowcase right side out, open the back flap and pin one side of the Velcro to the bottom of the overlapped flaps. Pin the Velcro to the top of the overlapping flaps. Sew across both strips.
