How to Operate a Vibrating Sander for Wood Floors

A vibrating sander works well on wood floors.

When you decide that is it time to refinish the wood floors in your home, there are several things you need to know about the overall process. One of the important steps in this process is sanding down the floors so that you can apply the new finish. To sand your wood floors, you can use a vibrating sander, also called a power sander.

Instructions

1. Place a buffing pad onto the bottom of your vibrating sander. This is what will actually sand the wood floor.

2. Plug the vibrating sander into a power source and turn it on. Procedures for turning it on may vary from sander to sander, so follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully.

3. Hold the vibrating sander lightly as you sand the wood floors. If you press down on it, you could end up with a wiggly pattern on your wood.

4. Move the vibrating sander slowly across the floor. Fast motion will result in uneven sanding.

5. Sand in the direction of the grain on your wood floor. This will ensure that the vibrating sander leaves an even finish.
