Measure the perimeters of your yard. For instance, if your yard is 40' deep and 100' long, you'll need 180 feet of fencing to cover three fence walls, assuming that you do not fence the front of the yard.

Calculate how many posts you will need. Typically, these posts are spaced every 6 feet and are 4"x4" wood beams. Using the above example of 180 feet of fence, you would need 30 posts.

Add the fencing footage to the number of posts. Get the price of vinyl or wood fencing from a local home improvement store. Multiply the per-foot price by the number of feet needed along with the cost of necessary posts. As an example, if the fence costs $15 per foot and the posts cost $14 each, your total cost would be $3,120.
