How to Install an Alternator for a Dodge Dakota

by Michael Dickson

Alternators convert mechanical energy to electrical energy using alternating current. It is essentially a generator providing power to the vehicle. The alternator receives its power from the battery. When an alternator begins to fail, it sucks the charge from the battery requiring the vehicle to receive a jump start to run. After testing the battery for failure, the next step is to replace the alternator. The Dodge Dakota engine compartment provides ample room to remove and replace the alternator in little time.
