Plan a special party for the 16-year-old boy in your life.

Many people tend to focus on the girls when it comes to celebrating 16th birthdays. Boys turn 16 as well, and should have a celebration that's just as special to him as a huge Sweet 16 gala is to her. However, huge parties with formal invites and fancy decor doesn't appeal to many teen boys. Throw him a party that's tailored to him to create a memorable event he and his friends will enjoy. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Determine what your teen would like to do for his birthday (if it isn't a surprise). Some 16-year-old boys do enjoy big parties, while others would rather invite a couple of close friends to celebrate in a low-key manner.

    • 2

Select the venue and activities for the party. A sports stadium with one of his favorite teams playing would work for a guy who loves sports. Take him and his friends to his favorite restaurant or interactive eatery and arcade if that's more his style. An amusement park, paintball gun range or race track are other options. The race track can tie into him turning 16, as he can now apply for a driver's license.

    • 3

Send invitations to his friends that complement the style of the party. A race track party might include personalized little plastic key chains, while a video game marathon could include sending out an invite to his friends on their gamer accounts.

    • 4

Create the menu. Load up on food that's fast and easy, as teens typically like to grab their food and keep on moving. Hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza and chips are common grub for teen boys. Something a little fancier might be more appropriate if the party is a somewhat formal coed event.

Tips & Warnings

  • Chaperone the party if it's off-site or if it's a coed event. Give the teens space to mingle uninterrupted, but keep an eye out for any inappropriate behavior.

  • Don't push him into having a large event if he doesn't want one.
