In order to keep receiving DirecTV signals on your TV, you may have to replace the access card.

DirecTV provides satellite television broadcasts as an alternative to cable programming. Customers use a receiver connected to both their television set and an outside antenna (satellite dish) to view DirecTV's satellite programming. The DirecTV receivers feature a smart card (access card) resembling a credit card, that enables the receivers to decipher the signals sent from the satellites in the sky. Periodically, customers may have to replace the card with a new one in order to keep receiving television programming.
