How to Save a CD to MP3 Format

How to Save a CD to MP3 Format thumbnail
CDs can save in MP3 format when ripped to a computer.

Purchasing a CD in the store allows the user to play the CD for personal enjoyment. Unfortunately, the CD must be changed to MP3 format to play on an iPod or MP3 player. It is possible to take the music from a CD and change it to MP3 format so that the user can listen to the music on a personal audio device like an iPod or MP3 player.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Windows Media Player. Note the "Rip Music" tab on the Media Player. Select the "Rip Music" tab to open it.

    • 2

Insert the CD into the computer. There are two possibilities that might occur: either the computer will read the CD and the songs will list automatically on the computer or it will not list it automatically. The Ask Dave Taylor website points out that if it does not list the songs automatically, the user must right click on "Rip" and then select "File." The Rip File drop down menu will have "CDs and Devices" about halfway down. Select "CDs and Devices" and then "Rip Audio CD" followed by the appropriate CD drive on the computer, which is listed in the menu after "Rip Audio CD." The CD songs should list in Media Player's rip list.

    • 3

Select the "Rip" tab to bring the drop down menu and then select "Tools." Select "Settings" from the "Tools" option to open the "Settings" box. Click "Rip Music" from the tab.

    • 4

Change the "Windows Media Audio" to "MP3" by selecting the drop down menu and clicking "MP3." Hit "Ok" to close the "Settings" menu.

    • 5

Select "Rip Music" in Media Player. Media Player will take the music from the CD, place it on the computer and change the format to MP3 format.
