A scarf is an inexpensive accessory that can accentuate a variety of hairstyles. You can use it as a headband, a ponytail holder or to cover part of or all of your hair. A less conventional way of incorporating a scarf into your hairstyle is to braid it into the hair. The scarf emphasizes the length of the hair and adds a bit of color and flair.   • Scarf twice as long as your hair
  • 2 elastic hair bands

  1. Loose Hair

      Fold the scarf in half as if you were going to use it as a headband. Continue to fold the scarf until you reach the desired width.

      Brush your hair back and pull it behind your ears. Drape the scarf across your head. Push it back to the position you would wear if it were a headband. Center it so that the ends hang evenly on each side. Pull the scarf behind your ears. Tie the scarf at the nape of your neck to secure it.

      Separate your hair into three sections. Add each end of the scarf to the two outer-most sections of hair. Braid your hair as you normally would, making sure to weave the ends of the scarf into the braid along with its corresponding section of hair. Tie the end of the scarf in a loose knot. Or use an elastic hair band to secure the end of the scarf.

    Ponytail

      Place your hair in a ponytail at the location you want the braid to start. Make a high ponytail for a high braid or a low ponytail for a low braid. Place the ponytail to the left or right of center to create a side braid.

      Fold the scarf in half as if you were going to use it as a headband. Continue to fold the scarf in half until it is no more than 4-inches wide.

      Drape the scarf across your ponytail. Center the scarf so that the ends hang evenly on each side. Wrap each end of the scarf around the ponytail once to secure it.

Braid your hair as you normally would, making sure to weave the ends of the scarf into the braid along with its corresponding section of hair.
