How to Turn On the Bluetooth on an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC

You can transfer smartphone data to the HP via Bluetooth.

Turn on Bluetooth to be able to connect your HP Pavilion entertainment PC to other devices via Bluetooth or pair Bluetooth devices with it. Before you attempt to turn on the feature, make sure your notebook has Bluetooth capabilities. If your HP laptop has built-in Bluetooth hardware and you can't turn it on, you may need to install the correct drivers for your model. Furthermore, make sure your laptop is discoverable; otherwise other devices will not be able to detect it.

Step 1

Press "Windows-X" to display the Power User menu and then select "Device Manager" to launch the utility. Alternatively, type "Device Manager" on the Start screen and click "Device Manager" in the list of results.

Double-click the "Network adapters" node to expand it. All network adapters, including Bluetooth devices, are listed here.

Step 3

Ensure your HP Pavilion has Bluetooth hardware installed. If a Bluetooth device appears in the Network Adapters list, your Pavilion has Bluetooth hardware. Close the Device Manager.

Install the Correct Bluetooth Drivers

Step 1

Open the "HP Drivers & Downloads" page (link in Resources) and find your HP Pavilion model. You can search using the model name, let HP detect the model automatically or locate your product by selecting the correct product categories.

Step 2

Select your operating system from the "Select or confirm your operating system" box and then click "Next." If you can't find Windows 8 in the list, choose Windows 7. Most Windows 7 drivers work in Windows 8 if you select the correct architecture -- 32-bit or 64-bit.

Step 3

Click the "Driver-Network" link to view all related downloads and then click "Download" next to the Bluetooth Adapter Driver item. Save the installer on your computer, double-click its icon and follow the prompts to install it. You may need to restart your PC before the changes take effect.

Turn On Bluetooth

Step 1

Ensure the Bluetooth transmitter is turned on. Some HP Pavilion notebooks have a button or slider that turns on the transmitter. The button or slider has the Bluetooth icon on it or next to it. If you can't find it, check the user guide that came with your notebook for instructions on how to turn on the transmitter.

Step 2

Type "Wireless Devices" on the Start screen and then click "Turn wireless communication on or off" in the list of results.

Step 3

Click "Wireless" in the left pane and then turn the "Bluetooth" option to "On." To allow other devices to detect your HP Pavilion's Bluetooth, set it to be discoverable.

Step 4

Type "Change Bluetooth Settings" on the Start screen and then click "Change Bluetooth Settings" in the list of results.

Step 5

Check the "Allow Bluetooth devices to find this PC" box to make the Bluetooth discoverable. To display the Bluetooth icon in the notification area, check the "Show the Bluetooth icon in the notification area" box.

Step 6

Click "Apply" to apply the new settings and then "OK" to close the window. Search for your HP Pavilion's Bluetooth signal using your mobile device.
