How to Paint on Metal Saws
Painting metal saws is no different than painting any other type of metal. When you follow the directions, you will have a beautifully painted piece.

1
Old paint flaking would need to be thoroughly removed. Look over the metal saw to see if there is any dirt, dust, flaking paint, oil, or anything else. If there is, take the proper steps to remove it. If you do not thoroughly remove it all, the paint will not adhere as well, and chipping will start prematurely.
-
2
Use a fine grit sandpaper to just lightly rough up the surface. Using the sandpaper, rough up the surface of the metal that is going to be painted. Do not work on sanding the item down; just give it a bit of a rough surface to enable the paint to properly adhere.

3
Paint the metal with the primer. If there is any rust on the metal, make sure you use a primer that is a rust inhibitor as well. You do not want to go through all the trouble only to have the rust peeking through the newly painted saw in a few months. Put on the first coat of primer and allow to dry for the amount of time specified in the directions on the can. Then apply a second coat and allow to dry.
-
4
Using metal paint, paint your metal saw with the base color. Following the directions on the can of paint, after the first coat is dry, apply a second coat to ensure thorough coverage.
-
5
If desired, you could add texture to your metal saw after the base coat is dry by using a specalized texture paint. If painting a custom design, when the base color is thoroughly dry, sketch out your desired design onto the metal saw. Paint as desired or leave as a sketch.
