How to Paint Black Canvas Shoes
Black canvas tennis shoes can serve as a canvas for your creative side and turn an ordinary shoe into a work of art. You can custom paint a design on the shoe. Painting on a black canvas shoe requires a few basic tools you can pick up at an art-supply store.
Things You'll Need
- White transfer pencil
- Pins
- Newspaper
- Acrylic paint
- Acrylic fabric medium

Choose the design you want to paint on the black canvas shoes; this can be a design you have drawn yourself by hand or one you have printed out.

Stuff the shoes with wadded up newspaper to keep them stiff while you paint the design on them.

Tape your design to a window face down, with enough natural light coming through to see the lines clearly. Trace the design with the transfer pencil.

Place your design on the shoe, with the transfer side down, and pin it in place.

Iron over the design gently to transfer the design to the canvas of the shoe. Be sure to avoid ironing over the rubber sole, as the heat can melt it. Slowly lift the design off the shoe.

Mix your acrylic paints with the acrylic fabric medium according the the fabric medium's directions. The fabric medium will soften the acrylic paint, which will prevent the paint from cracking when you wear the shoes.

Paint the design on the shoe with the acrylic paints and allow it to dry in a cool, dry place.

Tips & Warnings
Use bright colors that will pop against the black canvas of the shoe.
Failing to use the acrylic fabric medium will cause the paint to crack and peel when you wear the shoes.
