How to Customize With Sequins

How to Customize With Sequins thumbnail
Sequins can add sparkle to any item in your closet.

Sequins are a type of bead that are often used to embellish clothing. They come in all colors and are typically flat, but can also be multifaceted so they catch the light from all directions. While sequins are usually rounded, they come in a variety of fun shapes such as hearts, stars, flowers and leaves. If there is an item in your wardrobe that needs a bit of glitz, make a fashion statement by adding sequins.

Instructions

    • 1

Work in a room that doesn't have air coming in through the vents and close the windows. This will help to prevent your sequins from flying off and scattering everywhere. Lay newspapers over your table.

    • 2

Determine the design you want to create with the sequins. You might like a band of sequins around the edge of a skirt or dress, a swirly design on the front of a shirt or tank top or a heart on your skirt or to accent the edges of shirtsleeves. It's your fashion creation, so you can place the sequins the way you like.

    • 3

Lay the clothing item flat on the table. Sketch your design on the fabric with fabric chalk. This can help you visualize what the finished product will look like once it's been adorned with sequins.

    • 4

Apply fabric adhesive on top of the design that you sketched. Work with small areas to ensure that the sequins cover the area.

    • 5

Allow the adhesive to dry as recommended by the manufacturer. Leave your item flat on the work space to prevent the glue from dripping and removing the sequins, which can ruin the look you want.

    • 6

Shake your clothing item over the table so the sequins that aren't attached fall off the fabric. Save these for later use.

    • 7

Check out your work. If you want to add another layer of sequins to create texture, repeat the process of applying the fabric adhesive and sequins.
