How to Repair Rust on a Geo Metro
The Geo Metro is a small car that is also known as the Suzuki Swift and the Chevrolet Metro. Rust is more likely on the Geo Metro if the protective rust-proof layer on the car has worn away. Regular inspection and maintenance should keep rust to a manageable minimum. When it does appear, there are a few methods of rust removal that should work.
Things You'll Need
- Scrubbing pad or wire brush
- Gloves
- Naval jelly or rust remover
- Cloths or rags
- Automotive primer
- Automotive touch-up paint
Instructions
-
-
1
Examine the car frequently for rust formation.
-
2
Scrub off any rust when a steel wool pad or wire brush. If an owner maintains the Geo Metro on a regular basis, this is all that is needed to remove rust.
-
-
3
Put on work gloves before using commercial rust removers. Pour a little naval jelly or rust remover onto a steel wool pad. Saturate the rust by using the steel wool pad.
-
4
Leave the naval jelly or rust remover on the Geo Metro for 10 to 15 minutes to dissolve the rust. Naval jelly has phosphoric acid and rust remover has either phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid or another strong acid.
-
5
Clean off the naval jelly or rust remover with cloths or rags.
-
6
Paint on an automotive primer to make the car rust-proof again. Allow the first coat to dry before painting on a second coat.
-
7
Use automotive touch-up paint in areas that are missing paint. Use the same color or a close match to the color of the Geo Metro.
