Coreg is the trade name for the drug carvedilol. This medicine belongs to a class of drugs called beta blockers, which act by relaxing the heart muscle and slowing heart rate. Coreg is primarily used to treat patients who have high blood pressure or who have suffered from many kinds of heart disease. Converting Coreg CR to Coreg is a simple process you can do in a few steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Calculate your daily Coreg CR dose. Coreg CR is designed for once-a-day use because it is a long acting medication. This means that after you absorb the drug into the blood stream it is broken down slowly, allowing it to exert an effect for a longer duration. Coreg CR is available as 10, 20, 40 and 80 mg pills that you take once a day.

    • 2

Look at a Coreg CR conversion chart. The Resources section provides a link to a simple conversion between both medications. Coreg is taken twice a day as opposed to Coreg CR. However, its total dose for one day will still be less than the daily Coreg CR dosing.

    • 3

Note your total daily dose of Coreg. Remember that you will have to divide this daily dose into two halves. Split Coreg 6.25 mg dosages into 3.125 mg, 12.5 mg into doses of 6.25 mg, and 25 mg into doses of 12.5mg.
