How to Store Minced Garlic
Garlic is one of the staples used for cooking. It's possible to prepare a supply ahead of time and store it. This will save you a step when preparing your meals. You can buy jars of minced garlic but the product is usually inferior to garlic you prepare yourself. Chemicals have been added to preserve it, it may have been bleached, and there is no way of knowing its origin. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Garlic bulbs
- Chef's knife
- Food processor (optional)
- Oil, such as olive or canola
- Air-tight jar

Estimate how much garlic you will need for your recipes for three weeks. Use a rough guide of one clove to equal 1 tbsp.

Gather the amount of garlic you've determined you'll need.

Break off the cloves from the bulb with your fingers. Cut off the tips of each clove with a chef's knife and remove the papery skin.

Add the cloves to a food processor and mince. Or use the chef's knife and mince the cloves.

Place the minced garlic in an air-tight jar. Cover the garlic with a layer of your chosen oil.

Seal the jar and place it in the refrigerator. Use the garlic within three weeks. Dispose of any garlic remaining after that time.

Tips & Warnings
If you wish to use store-bought minced garlic, it may be stored at room temperature, as the garlic has been acidified and preservatives added.
Always dispose of any homemade minced garlic after three weeks. There is a chance of Clostridium botulinum bacteria developing after that time.
