1
Know your young alumni. Young alumni are usually 10 or fewer years out of school and have an age range from 21 to 32. Assess whether the majority of the alumni living in New York from your particular school are professionals, artists or other. The majority of the alumni may be a professional group, but there could be a mix of Williamsburg hipsters in there as well. Create an idea that will bring the whole group together for a good time.

2
Reserve a venue to host the event. The right venue will provide the ambiance that will facilitate the experience for young alumni. Hotels offer rooftop access during the summer for social events. Some private buildings also do the same. The Metropolitan Museum of Art also has a rooftop venue that might give young alumni a good time. A few restaurants around the city have backyard patios, particularly in the Alphabet City section of the East Village. Cosmic bowling is another cool idea that young alumni will enjoy doing together. Key note speaker conferences can be held at a conference center or hotel. Utilize alumni connections to host a dinner in an exclusive restaurant Assess whether to have a cash bar or an open bar at your event. Open bars are generally more appreciated by young people who do not have as much money starting out in their post-college years.

Secure a speaker if appropriate. New York is home to many well-known authors, professionals, researchers and professors. Finding someone who can speak on a relevant issue of the day will attract a sizable crowd. Some key note speakers need to be booked months in advance.
-
4
Hire a DJ or band. If your event is a rooftop social, hire one of New York's premier DJs to attract alumni and their friends to the event.
-
5
Send out postcard and e-mail invites to the young alumni who live in the New York metropolitan area. Don't exclude alumni who live within driving distance of New York as many will already be in the city for work most weeknights. Request RSVPs by a certain date so that you can order catering necessary to accommodate the size group.
-
6
Arrange for catering if appropriate. Some events do not require catering, although free food always attracts young people. Select a buffet, table service or hors d'oeuvre style service, where a waiter walks around a room offering bite-sized nibbles to those who wish to try them. This style of service is good for social events.
