How to Fix an Estate Clothes Dryer
The Whirlpool Estate dryer is used in the home to dry wet laundry after it has been washed. Common problems with the dryer include a faulty heating element, no power going into the dryer, or clothes that will not dry. These issues can be solved with minimal knowledge of the Whirlpool dryer and without a technician certification. You can fix these problems by checking the heating element, checking the power cord on the back of the dryer, or clearing a clog in the exhaust hose. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
Heating Element
-
1
Unplug the Whirlpool dryer from the power outlet.
-
2
Use a pair of pliers to remove the nuts holding the back panel of the dryer in place.
-
-
3
Locate a heating element casing within the dryer. This will be a rectangular box on the right side of the dryer.
-
4
Remove the heating element casing from the dryer and unclip the electrical wires from the bottom of the heating element. Remove the screws holding the heating element in the casing.
-
5
Clip the electrical wires onto your new heating element and then install it into the heating element casing.
-
6
Replace the heating element casing in the dryer. Replace the back panel onto the dryer and then reconnect your electrical plug. Test the dryer to make sure it is heating properly.
Electrical Cord
-
7
Go to the back of the dryer and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
-
8
Look over the cord to make sure that it is not damaged.
-
9
Check for corrosion on the electrical pins at the end of the electrical cord. Use a wire brush and soda to clean off the corrosion at the end of the electrical pins.
-
10
Use a screwdriver to secure the electrical cord to the dryer's electrical panel if the contacts from the electrical cord have come loose. If the contacts have come loose, the dryer will not be able to power on.
-
11
Replace the cord if you find any breaks or tears in the cable. Replace the cord if one of the pins on the back of the cable has broken or if the electrical contacts going to the dryer's electrical panel have broken.
Clogged Exhaust Hose
-
12
Go to the back of the dryer and locate the exhaust hose. The exhaust hose will be coming out of the back of the dryer and going to a hole in the wall.
-
13
Use a pair of pliers to remove the metal clamp holding the exhaust hose to the back of the dryer.
-
14
Use a vacuum to clear any clogs out of the hose or the back of the dryer.
-
15
Reconnect the hose to the back of the dryer and secure it with the exhaust hose clamp.
-
16
Position the hose so that it can extract air in a straight line. The hose should not be kinked or curved for maximum efficiency.
