How to Use a Portable Tire Changer
With the cost of vehicle upkeep always on the rise, doing as much of it yourself makes a wise choice. However, when it comes to changing tires, not many do-it-yourself consumers want to tackle the job. However, you can overcome this obstacle with a portable tire changer. "Portable" means you can store it out of the way when not using it. When performing the change, allow enough room to use the tool properly.

1
Place the wheel on the portable tire changer to break the bead. Put the flat end of the mount/demount bar into the bead breaker handle.
-
2
Set the breaker shoe against the tire at the rim. Push down on the mount/demount bar to free the tire from the rim. Turn the tire over, and repeat the process.

3
Turn the rim of the wheel upright so the valve stem faces up. Put the pedestal spider over the center post of the tire changer. Screw the post cap onto the post, and tighten it by hand.
-
4
Insert the flat end of the demount bar between the tire and the rim. Pull the bar toward you across the tire to force the bead of the tire over the rim. Work the bar around the rim of the wheel until the entire bead sits above the rim. Repeat this process with the remaining bead of the tire.

5
Put the new tire on the rim. Hook the mounting end of the bar over the edge of the rim. Push the bead of the tire down so the flat part of the hook grabs it.
-
6
Push down on the tire with one hand; with the other hand, pull the bar clockwise around the rim to mount the tire on the rim. Repeat this step with the other bead. Inflate the new tire.
