LeapFrog can modify your files and slow down your computer

LeapFrog is a malicious software that is installed on your computer without your knowledge. The software appears to be legitimate, but it is harmful and can lead to a loss of data. LeapFrog slows down your computer and creates unwanted constant pop-ups even when you are not connected to the Internet. The malware is a type of Trojan that installs itself on your computer when you download free software from questionable websites. LeapFrog also can infect your computer when you do not have an anti-virus software or the one you use does not work properly. You can remove LeapFrog by using a free anti-malware program from a reputable website.

Instructions

    • 1

Run a full scan to find LeapFrog on your computer. You can use either your anti-virus software or download a free one from websites such as Panda NanoScan, Panda ActiveScan or eXterminate It. Note that LeapFrog has many aliases and is known by different names depending on the company, including V.516.a for Kaspersky, Leapfrog.A virus for Eset, ALFA family for Panda and Leapfrog.516.A-Dropper for F-Prot.

    • 2

For the free scanning websites, download the software and follow the on-screen instructions to install it. Allow the website to install an ActiveX control when prompted. After the downloading and installation, launch the scan and let it run. This process can take an hour or two, depending on the website. Do not close the window, as it will interrupt the scanning.

    • 3

After the scan is complete, you will have a list of all LeapFrog infected files. Copy the exact file name and location in a word-processing program or save the report on your computer as you will refer to it later.

    • 4

Delete LeapFrog. Go to websites that offer free malware-removal software such as CCleaner, Pocket Killbox or HighjackThis.

    • 5

Download Pocket Killbox from its website, for example, and follow the instructions to install the software on your desktop. Double-click on Pocket Killbox and click on "Run" when prompted. Choose the "Delete on Reboot" option and select the "All Files" button.

    • 6

Open the word-processing program where you typed LeapFrog infected files information, right-click, select all and copy. Go back to Pocket Killbox, select "File" and click "Copy" from Clipboard. Click on the red-and-white "Delete on Reboot" option and select "Yes" to delete all LeapFrog files. Your computer will now restart and LeapFrog will be completely removed from your computer.

  • Make sure you backup all your files before you remove LeapFrog, as the whole process may lead to loss of data.
