How to Replace a Power Mirror in a Mitsubishi Galant

by Mike Vasick

If the power door mirrors on your 2012 Mitsubishi Galant stops working, check the fuse. If you need to replace the mirror assembly, you can do it with some basic hand tools in an hour or so. Be careful of the sharp metal edges of the door.

Step 1

Lower the window. Remove the screw covers on the arm rest, the cup on the arm rest and the reflector at the back of the rest with the small flat-head screwdriver. Carefully remove the trim around the door handle. Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws from under the covers. Use the trim tool to remove the mirror and window switch board. Gently pry from the front of the switch to release it from the door panel. Use the small flat-head screwdriver to disconnect the wiring harness.

Step 2

Using the trim tool, slide it under the bottom of the door panel and gently pry the panel outward. You will feel the clips release and hear a popping sound. Once the door panel is loose at the bottom, take your hands and pull the panel toward you. When the panel is loose, lift it up and over the edge of the door, then set the panel aside.

Step 3

Unplug the mirror harness connector with the small flat-head screwdriver. Remove the cover for the mirror with the trim tool, and remove the three nuts holding the mirror to the door.

Step 4

Install the new mirror and torque the nuts to 9 inch-pounds. Plug in the mirror harness connector in until you hear it click. Hook the door panel over the door, then press around the edges until it’s tight and you hear the clips snap.

Step 5

Install the wiring harness onto the window switch and install the switch into the door panel. Install the screws into the door trim and put the covers back on. Snap the handle trim back into place.
