Get a duplicate car title from the Division of Motor Vehicles.

To buy or sell a vehicle, you need the title. If you have lost or misplaced the title to your car, you can get a new one from the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles. According to DMV.org, it takes 15 days before a duplicate title will be issued. Once you receive the duplicate title, the old one will no longer be valid. If you find it, send it to the Division of Motor Vehicles.
