Unwanted calls can be distracting to say the least. With so many people opting for just a cell phone these days, there are calls that some of us may want to block altogether. Many land line providers offer packages that will allow you to block unwanted calls, but for cell phone users, it hasn't been as easy. Now there are a few steps you can take to block unwanted calls from your cell phone.

      Contact your cell phone provider. Depending on your carrier, it may offer a service to manage your calls and block unwanted callers. Not many cell carriers offer this service, but you can give them the number and they can block it through their system, and they can also help you regarding phone harassment and cyber stalking laws that are now existent in many states.

      Look at the settings option on your phone. Depending on your phone, you may be able to block calls through your settings. If you have this option, you will start by going into the menu of your phone. Through the menu, find the "calls" section that will allow you to manage your calls. There will be an option to accept all calls or to make a list of calls you choose to take or to block. It is recommended that you consult the user's manual for any instructions regarding your settings option.

      Register with the National Do Not Call Registry (888-382-1222). Your registration is valid for five years and will be active starting one month from the day you register. It will block certain telemarketing calls, however, political organizations, charities, telephone surveyors without intent to sell, and a business you have a relationship with, will still have access to your number.
