How to Install a Car Alarm on a 2002 Nissan Altima

Read over the alarm's instructions manual. Each alarm uses slightly different installation techniques. Refer to the instructions manual any time you encounter a problem or lack understanding of a technique.

Pop the hood of your car. Detach the positive battery cable of the 2002 Nissan Altima. Locate the battery and pull out the cable on the positive side on the battery.

Connect the positive battery cable to the alarm's power wire. Run these two wires along the engine's firewall. Locate the entry point of the engine. This entry point is near the car's steering wheel. Push the two wires through the entry point, into the interior of the car.

Mount the alarm's siren on the hood of the car, on the side of the hood that faces the engine. Using a power drill, drill a small hole in the hood of the car. Push the alarm over this hole. It should click into place.

Locate the panel on the underside of the dash. Pry open this panel by sticking a thin knife into the corner of the panel and gently pushing the panel toward your body. The corner of the panel should pop off. Pull the panel off of the dash and set it aside. Mount the shock sensor on the back of the panel. Drill a hole in the middle of the panel using the power drill and slid the sensor into place. Pull the wires hanging by the steering wheel to this panel.

Connect the alarm's start disable relay to the ignition wire harness. The The ignition wire harness of the 2002 Nissan is located near the back of the steering wheel's column. Locate the 12 Volt wire of the ignition harness. Cut this wire in half using wire cutters and push the wire of the start disable relay into the socket that the 12 Volt wire previous touched. If you are unsure which wire is the 12 Volt wire, check a wiring diagram for the 2002 Nissan Altima.

Connect the power lock module of the alarm to the door lock relay. This relay is just above the fuse box. Specific instructions for connecting the power lock module vary by alarm brand so check your instructions manual for more information.

Mount the LED light on the dash of the car. Mount the alarm's module under the dash of the car. Drill a hole in a panel of the dash and push the alarm module's knob into the hole. It should click into place. This module needs to be easy to access, but you do not want a passerby to see the module when he glances at your vehicle.

Connect the alarm module to the wires you pulled through the entry point.

Connect the positive battery cable to the battery terminal. Close the hood of your car.
