How to Retrieve Called & Received Numbers on a Phone Line

Some phone numbers called or received are unknown numbers.

When a cell phone or a landline makes a phone call or receives a phone call, the phone company has a record of the calls. While there are numbers that are listed as "restricted" or "blocked," the numbers are usually phone numbers that the caller ID on the phone is unable to display for any reason. It is possible to find out the phone numbers that are called and received on a phone, regardless of whether the phone is a cell phone or a house landline.

Instructions

1. Open a Web browser on the computer and go to the phone company's site that provides service for the phone. Type in the username and password for the phone service.

2. Locate the call records on the account. The phone company that provides phone service keeps records of calls received and calls made from the account for personal records. Any phone number that either called the phone or that the phone called is listed on the call records in order from the most recent to the oldest. Note any unknown phone numbers that are in the received or called lists. Some phone providers will list calls made and received together.

3. Open another browser and select a website to find phone numbers. Websites like whocallsme.com or everycall.us allow the user to type in unknown phone numbers and find out who called or who was called from the phone (see References). These services are useful in finding out unknown numbers or identifying numbers of friends and family when a new phone is connected to the original phone number and contacts are lost.
