How to Make Large Paper Storage Boxes
You can make large paper storage boxes from a few common office supplies. Thick card stock can be folded and secured in the shape of an open box and matching lid. The inexpensive paper boxes are sturdy enough to hold a variety of items, such as decorations, paperwork or art supplies. Multiple large paper boxes stacked on one another can form a vertical storage area. Make a few extra storage boxes to store household items out of sight. Does this Spark an idea?

Draw the dimensions for the base of the storage box onto the heavyweight card stock with a ruler and pencil. For example, the bottom panel of a large paper storage box could be a 36-inch-by-24-inch rectangle or a 48-inch-by-48-inch square.

Draw the dimensions for each of the four sides of the box attached to the four sides of the base panel. For example, 12-inch box sides would extend 12 inches straight out in four directions from the base square or rectangle. The length of each side panel must be equal to the side of the base it connects with.

Draw 1-inch-wide tabs on the left side of each side panel.

Cut out the outline of the box along the side panels and tabs.

Fold the paper along the lines where the side panels join to the base so they are at a 90-degree angle. Fold the tabs on the left side of each side panel inward at a 90-degree angle.

Spread a thin layer of glue on the side of each tab that is facing the adjacent panel. Press the adjacent panels onto the glue-covered tabs. Wait for the glue to dry completely according to the manufacturer's directions.

Draw a second base panel with the same dimensions as the first. Add four side panels that are 2 inches wide, and include 1-inch tabs on the left side of each panel. Cut this shallower box outline out.

Fold the 2-inch-wide side panels at a 90-degree angle from the base section. Fold the tabs at a 90-degree angle from the side panels. Spread a thin layer of glue on the tabs on the side facing the adjacent panel.

Press the glue-covered tab onto the adjacent panel. Wait for the glue to dry completely according to the manufacturer's directions.

Turn the shallow box over so the open end is facing down. Slide the shallow box over the opening of the deeper box to close the storage container.

Decorate paper storage boxes with markers and paints to give them a theme or to match the room decor.
Choose glue that dries clear to avoid a messy look to the finished paper storage box.
