Corn on the cob is a summertime favorite at family picnics, barbecues and county fairs. Easy to cook, corn on the cob can be prepared in a variety of ways, including in a pot on the stove, in the oven and on the grill. When cooking outdoors, it is easy to throw some corn on the cob on the grill next to the meat you're cooking. Methods of grilling corn on the cob vary, but grilling with the corn in the husk is one popular option. Does this Spark an idea?

      Preheat your gas grill by setting the temperature on high. When the grill is fully heated, reduce the heat to medium high.

      Pull down the husk on the corn all the way to the base, but do not remove it. Remove as much as silk as you can to expose the corn kernels, and then pull the husk back up over the corn.

      Submerge the ears of corn in a large pot of cold water for 10 to 15 minutes. This step is optional, but letting the corn soak in water provides extra moisture for cooking. Remove the corn from the pot, and shake off any excess water.

      Pull back the husk again, and baste the corn with olive oil using a pastry brush or your fingers. Fold the husk back up over the corn. One option before you put the husk back in place is to sprinkle the corn with salt, pepper, garlic and other seasonings for more flavor.

      Place the corn on the hot grill. Grill for about 15 to 20 minutes, turning the ear occasionally so the husk is lightly burned on all sides. Poke a fork in it to ensure that the kernels are tender, and then remove the corn from the grill. Serve the corn with salt, butter and additional seasonings as you see fit.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful not to overcook the corn. If the corn cob flexes easily, it is overdone.
